Pendants, RLM shades and decorative globes for apparel, boutique and lifestyle stores, configured and built to order in the finish and color temperature your brand calls for.
Good retail store lighting layers three kinds of light: even ambient light to move through the store, brighter accent light on the merchandise, and feature pendants that mark the places where people stop, like the cash wrap, the front table and the fitting rooms. Use 90 CRI sources wherever product color matters, and hold one color temperature, usually 3000K to 3500K, across the whole sales floor.
Think of a store an hour before opening. The new season is folded on the front table, denim is stacked by wash on the back wall, and someone flips the panel. The pendants come up and the indigo reads as indigo, not gray. That is what the lighting plan is for.
We build the fixtures that carry that plan. Shades are spun from aluminum or steel and powder-coated to order, and decorative globes and disks are sized to the room. LED modules include 90 CRI options for apparel, and one boutique or a hundred stores get the same spec.

A strong store lighting design starts with how people walk the floor: light the path, then put the brightest light on product and at the places people stop.
### Ambient: the base layer
Ambient light sets how bright the store feels overall. In open-ceiling stores with exposed deck, the BGL puts out 3,000 to 12,000 lumens from a decorative 12- or 17-inch reflector, in 2700K to 4000K, with 0β10V dimming. The TTF can mount at the ceiling for general light or hang on a stem or cord over a department.
### Accent: light on the merchandise
A common rule of thumb is a 3:1 ratio: accent-lit merchandise about three times brighter than the ambient around it, and 5:1 or more for a hero display. Walls, mannequins and focal tables get this light. Keep it at the same color temperature as the ambient layer so the store reads as one space.
### Feature pendants: cash wrap and tables
This is where the brand shows. A row of Orbis disks or Pianeta acrylic globes over the cash wrap turns a counter into a landmark. The Roo comes in 8- to 21.5-inch shades for smaller shops. As a starting point, hang pendants 36 to 48 inches above a table or counter, and keep at least 7 feet clear anywhere people walk under them.
### Fitting rooms
Light the face and garment from the front and sides, not only from overhead, at 90 CRI and the sales-floor color temperature, so the shirt looks the same in the mirror as on the table.
### Window displays
Pendants just inside the glass light the display and show from the sidewalk. The street side of the facade is its own design problem.

### CRI: 90 is the floor for apparel
Choose 90 CRI or higher for anything a customer judges by color: apparel, cosmetics, home textiles, paint. Our field-adjustable LED modules come in 80 and 90 CRI versions. For merchandise, specify the 90 CRI LAC03 (1,650β2,750 lumens) in shades 12 inches and up, or the LAH02 (3,300β5,250 lumens) in shades 16 inches and up. The LAC03 is offered on the Step Neck Dome, and both are offered on the Downlight Reflector.
### CCT by category
- Apparel and boutiques: 3000K to 3500K. Warm enough to feel welcoming, neutral enough for true color.
- Home goods and furniture: 2700K to 3000K, the color of a living room at night.
- Outdoor, athletic and tech: 3500K to 4000K for a crisper, higher-energy floor.
- Grocery and specialty food: usually 3000K to 3500K at 90 CRI, so produce reads fresh and baked goods look warm.
Our adjustable modules set color temperature (2700K to 5000K on the 90 CRI versions) and three lumen levels on the module, with 0β10V dimming down to 10%.
Real installations β see how these fixtures come together in the field.
Plenty of the best stores live in old warehouses and mills, under 16- to 24-foot ceilings and exposed ductwork.
### Open-ceiling and industrial retail lighting
RLM shades are made for those ceilings. A Step Neck Dome on cord (12 to 24 inches, 85% reflectance white interior, cULus wet-location listed) brings the light down to the merchandise and gives the room scale. For a bigger gesture, the Beretto is spun in sizes from 15 to 60 inches with a two-tone powder coat. Keep cord lengths consistent within a run.
### Grocery and specialty food, briefly
Food retail uses the same layers. Near misted produce or ice cases, use a wet-listed fixture like the Downlight Reflector, and hold 90 CRI throughout.
### Lifestyle centers and mall tenants
In lifestyle centers and malls, check the landlord's tenant criteria before you finalize window and entry fixtures.
### One look across every location
If a store concept will repeat, lock the spec: shade size, exterior and interior finish code, module, CCT, lumen setting and cord length. With a field-adjustable module, write down the switch settings too, so store 30 matches store 1. Bock offers 38 standard powder-coat finishes plus custom color matching, and every fixture is built to order to the recorded spec.
### Maintenance
Medium-base and integral LED options keep relamping simple. Keep a spare fixture per finish, and wipe spun shades with a soft cloth and mild soap.
The best retail store lighting layers three things: even ambient light, brighter accent light on merchandise, and feature pendants at the cash wrap and focal tables. Use 90 CRI sources wherever color matters, and keep one color temperature, usually 3000K to 3500K, across the sales floor. Choose fixtures that match the store's look, such as RLM shades for open ceilings or decorative globes for boutiques.
Send us your store plan, brand colors and ceiling height. We'll suggest fixtures, send finish samples and quote the spec for one store or many.
