Dining hall pendants, student union statement pieces, durable residence hall fixtures and site lighting, configured and built to order in your school colors.
The best campus lighting makes a dining hall feel like a restaurant, a student union feel like the living room of the university, and a residence hall survive four years of move-in days without looking tired. In practice that means warm, dimmable decorative pendants in dining and social spaces, tough wet-listed fixtures with guards at entries and in housing, and site lighting that respects the campus lighting standard and its dark-sky policy.
Picture the dinner rush at a campus dining hall in late October: trays clattering, a line at the pizza station, the windows gone dark at 6 p.m. Over the long tables, big prismatic pendants throw a soft, even glow and a little light up onto the ceiling, so the room feels open instead of cavernous. That is Brilliante at Shively Dining Hall at Ohio University, and it is the kind of room students choose to linger in.
Campus projects are rarely one room. A facilities team, a campus architect and often a P3 housing developer need fixtures that can repeat across buildings, match school colors, pass a bid review and be reordered in five years. Bock, headquartered in Twinsburg, Ohio, configures and builds each fixture to order, from shade size and finish to lamp and mounting, so the pendant you choose for the dining hall can become part of the campus standard.
Decorative pendants for dining and social spaces, wet-listed domes for housing entries, and site fixtures for walks and parking.

Every campus building does a different job, and the lighting should follow it.
### Dining halls and commons (the flagship)
University dining hall lighting has to do two things at once: light a big room evenly and still feel intimate at the table. Large-diameter pendants help. The Brilliante comes in 12", 16" and 22" prismatic acrylic shades with 25% uplight, and it is UL listed for damp locations; its page names cafeterias and gymnasiums among its applications. The BGL packs one to four Cree LED modules (3,000 to 12,000 lumens, 2700K to 4000K) with 0-10V dimming, so tall commons can be lit from high ceilings. Keep serveries and kitchens on the food-service fixtures your code and health inspector require. Put the character in the seating areas.
### Student unions, cafés and campus pubs
Unions and campus cafés borrow from hospitality. Group Roo pendants over counters and high-tops, or hang a row of Beretto spun-aluminum shades (15" up to 60" across) in a school color. Beretto is powder coated inside and out, which is how Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished its dining area in one bold color.
### Residence halls and student housing
Student housing lighting is about durability and maintenance at scale. Choose fixtures that accept guards and globes, keep lamp types consistent across buildings so housing staff stock one spare, and use the same finish on every phase. The Standard Dome is cULus listed for damp and wet locations and takes 41/42 globes and AR wire guards, which is why it works at entries, stairs and bike rooms. Hub State Street in West Lafayette uses it.
### Historic campus buildings
Older quads often have original pendants or gooseneck lights that nobody makes anymore. Because we spin shades to order, we can often match a profile, size and color closely. Send us photos and dimensions, or run the old part through our cross-reference tool.
### Exterior walkways and building entries
Many campuses have a dark-sky policy or a lighting master plan. Where it asks for full-cutoff or fully shielded fixtures, confirm the rating on each spec sheet before you submit. Do not assume it. For paths, the Profile Z bollard is ETL listed for wet locations and dims to 10% on 0-10V. For parking and main walks, the PKS post top has field-selectable wattage and 3000K, 4000K or 5000K color temperature.

Getting onto a campus standard takes paperwork as well as good looks. Here is what campus architects and purchasing offices usually ask us for.
Bids and approved-product lists. Public universities and districts often bid lighting against a basis-of-design. Give the bid a complete part number built in our configurator, the spec sheet, and IES files where the product page offers them.
BAA / BABA. The Brilliante, BGL, Beretto, Roo and Standard Dome product pages all say the same thing: add BAA or BABA to the end of the part number if the job requires it. Put that suffix in the schedule itself, not in a note, so it survives value engineering. For other fixtures, ask us about compliance documentation before bid day.
School colors. Decorative shades are powder coated, with RAL matching available on BGL and Roo. Ask for a color chip before you release a large order. Screen colors and printed brand guides rarely match a finished shade.
Controls and energy code. Dining halls and unions usually need dimming and occupancy or daylight controls. BGL uses 0-10V dimming; confirm driver and control options for each fixture on its spec sheet.
Summer schedules. Residence-hall work is usually squeezed between commencement and August move-in. Lock the fixture schedule early, and ask your rep which items can ship from our Quick Ship program.
Use large decorative pendants over the seating areas, with warm 3000K light, dimming, and some uplight so the ceiling doesn't go dark. Prismatic pendants like the Brilliante spread light evenly across long tables. Spun-aluminum shades like the Beretto add color and a more restaurant-like feel.
Send us your fixture schedule, school colors or photos of the originals. A Bock rep will help you build a campus-ready spec package.
