Die-cast jelly-jar vaportights with sealed globes, silicone gaskets, cast guards and optional reflectors, configured and built to order for wash bays, back-of-house, garages and exterior corridors.
A vapor tight light fixture is a sealed, gasketed luminaire whose globe threads onto a cast housing so moisture, steam, corrosive fumes and non-combustible dust stay out of the lamp and wiring. Look for a UL wet location listing, a threaded glass or Lexan globe, a silicone gasket, stainless fasteners and a guard sized for the space.
Think of the last hour of a shift in a busy kitchen: the dish machine exhaling steam, a hose running across quarry tile, the wash bay next door still dripping. Ordinary fixtures fog and rust here. A jelly-jar vaportight is the fixture that keeps working, which is why it has hung over loading doors, pump rooms and car washes for decades.
Bock configures and builds its vaportight series to order in Twinsburg, Ohio. The VW wall mount, VX ceiling mount and VP pendant share one die-cast aluminum globe fitter, so you pick the mount, globe, guard, reflector, finish and light source, and the family looks the same from the wash bay to the break room. Every one is listed with Underwriters Laboratories for wet locations and C-UL listed for Canada.
One sealed globe-and-gasket design on five mounts, an integral-LED jelly jar, and the guards and gaskets that keep them sealed.

### Vapor tight and vapor proof
In trade use, "vapor tight" and "vapor proof" mean the same thing: a sealed, gasketed fixture that keeps moisture and vapor out of the lamp chamber. Neither term is a certification on its own. The listing is what counts. Bock's vaportights are listed by UL for wet locations, which covers exposure to rain, water and moisture, indoors or out. They are approved for corrosive fumes, non-explosive vapors and gases, and non-combustible dusts.
### IP and NEMA ratings
IP65 or IP66 on a spec sheet is an ingress-protection code from IEC 60529, and NEMA 4X is an enclosure rating. Bock's vaportight pages list a UL wet location listing, not an IP or NEMA rating, so we don't claim one. If your specification demands an IP number, ask us before you order.
### Not for hazardous locations
These are not Class I or Class II hazardous-location fixtures. "Non-explosive vapors" means exactly that. Paint booths, fuel-transfer rooms, grain dust zones and anywhere an electrical code classifies as Class I or II Division 1 or 2 need explosion-proof or hazardous-location-listed luminaires.
| Car wash & wash bays | VX ceiling or VW wall, Lexan globe; mount outside the direct wand spray; wet listed |
|---|---|
| Dish rooms & back-of-house | VX ceiling or VP stem, Lexan globe where glass is restricted |
| Exterior breezeways & stairwells | VW wall or VS box mount, glass globe with cast guard |
| Parking garages & loading doors | VX ceiling or VW wall, cast guard; ask for BAA/BABA on public jobs |
| Pump, boiler-feed & mechanical rooms | VX or VW, cast guard, 1/2" or 3/4" conduit tap |
| Docks, piers & yard poles | VST on 1-1/4" pipe or VP on a gooseneck, powder coat |
| Hazardous (Class I/II) locations | Not suitable; specify a hazardous-location-listed fixture |

Six choices make a vaportight schedule.
### Glass jelly jar or Lexan globe
The standard globe is clear glass, threaded for easy relamping, with prismatic, opal, blue, green, amber and red glass as options. Glass shrugs off heat and cleaning chemicals. Lexan (polycarbonate) globes, clear or colored, are the choice where breakage can't be tolerated. Two sizes, the 41 and the larger 42, match the fixture you choose.
### Guards
The cast guard is die-cast aluminum that threads onto the globe fitter and locks with a stainless set screw. Use it wherever carts, ladders or forklift masts can reach the globe. The cast guard is not offered with Lexan globes, so pick glass with a guard or Lexan without one. See guards for vaportights.
### Mounting
- VW wall mount: directly to a wall or an octagon box, with an optional die-cast junction box tapped 1/2" or 3/4".
- VX ceiling mount: to a ceiling or wall surface, copper-free die-cast junction box tapped 1/2" or 3/4".
- VP pendant: tapped 1/2" or 3/4" with a conduit stop; hangs from stems, cord sets, gooseneck wall brackets or pole-top brackets.
- VS box mount: to a surface or recessed outlet box with 3-1/2" centers.
- VST stanchion: slips over 1-1/4" (1.660" OD) pipe and locks with a 3/8" set screw.
### Reflectors
The VP and VX accept optional Dome, Cone, Angle, Deep Bowl or Radial Wave reflectors, white as standard or powder coated. A dome pushes light down onto a work surface; an angle throws it across a wall.
### Light source
The classic units take a medium-base lamp in a glazed porcelain, 4KV pulse-rated socket, with LED module configurations and IES files on each product page. For a plug-and-play option, the VELP / VELX / VELW is an integral LED jelly jar: 120-277V, up to 2,670 lumens, 3000K, 4000K or 5000K, cULus listed for wet locations, in pendant, ceiling and wall versions.
### Finish and compliance
Standard finish is textured natural aluminum, with powder coat available; all fasteners are stainless steel. Add BAA or BABA to the part number when a public job requires it.
A vaportight is only as tight as its gasket. Bock uses memory-retentive, die-cut silicone gaskets, but every gasket ages under heat cycles and cleaning chemicals. Water beading inside the globe or corrosion on the socket shell means it's time to replace it.
Order replacement gaskets and globes by fixture and globe size. On an existing jelly-jar installation from another brand, the part numbers listed under "Similar to" on each Bock product page and the cross-reference tool help you find the matching fixture.
A vapor tight light is sealed and gasketed to keep water, steam, corrosive fumes and non-combustible dust out. An explosion-proof light is built and listed to contain an ignition inside the fixture, for Class I or Class II hazardous locations. Bock's vaportights are approved for non-explosive vapors only. They are not hazardous-location fixtures, so paint booths, fuel rooms and grain dust areas need a fixture listed for that classification.
Send us the room, the mounting surface and what gets sprayed on it. We'll configure the mount, globe, guard and light source and quote the whole schedule.
